Firefighter Injured, Two Dozen Displaced in Irvington Township House Fire

A firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries while battling a fire that ignited in a house in Irvington Township on Wednesday evening.

According to preliminary reports, firefighters responded to a fire located in a house located in the ten block of Grace Street shortly before 8:10 p.m.

Firefighters arrived at the scene found heavy flames shooting from a three-story wood framed house and extending to neighboring homes according to fire officials.

Crews from Newark, Maplewood, and Orange were among several companies that arrived and began to battle the intense flames from the exterior in an attempt to halt the extension of the blaze.

A search of the burning home indicated no trapped or seriously injured victims.

Officials say the injured firefighter was transported to St. Barnabus Medical Center in Livingston where he is expected to survive.

According to fire officials, about 29 displaced residents received assistance from The American Red Cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
