Firefighter Injured After Raging Two-Alarm Fire Destroys Newark South Ward House

Newark

A firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries while battling a raging fire in a Newark South Ward community late Friday night.

The fast-moving blaze erupted in a large two and a half story home located at 29 Leslie Street around 11:40 p.m.

According to fire officials, firefighters arrived at the scene and found heavy flames tearing through the roof of the home and beginning to extend to a neighboring residence.

Newark's bravest were able to make their way inside the building, where they noticed that the home was vacant and no trapped occupants were inside.

Crews stretched multiple lines to beat down flames before placing the fire under control around 12:40 a.m. with the cause under investigation.
