Firefighter Burned in Newark House Fire

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that Newark Firefighters extinguished a two-alarm fire at 133 South 8th Street yesterday.

According to Direcotor Ambrose, at approximately 2:25 p.m., firefighters responded to a call of a fire in a three-story residential building.

Official say the fire extended to an adjacent residence at 135 South 8th Street and a 2nd alarm was called.

Some 60 firefighters responded, with one firefighter reporting a minor burn to his face.

Officials say he was evaluated at the scene by EMS and remained on duty.

No other injuries were reported.

Three families, comprising of nine adults, were relocated.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by members of the Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit.
