Fire on Maple Parkway Destroys Sparta Home

The homeowner of a Sparta home escaped unharmed after flames engulfed the home.

Sparta police received multiple 911 calls reporting a structure fire on Maple Parkway at approximately 3:25 Tuesday afternoon.

Cpl. Frank Schomp arrived at 64 Maple Parkway to find the left side of the home partially engulfed in flames with the unaware homeowner still who was home.

Cpl. Schomp was able to get the homeowner out of the residence safely.

The Sparta Fire Department was assisted by Andover Fire Department, Byram Fire Department and the Ogdensburg Fire Department extinguishing the fire.

The homeowner was transported to Newton Medical Center and evaluated.

Two of the family's dogs appear to have died in the fire, according to police.

There were no other injuries reported.
