Fire Breaks Out Inside Abandoned Irvington Township House

A firefighter suffered minor injuries after trying to extinguish a fire that broke out inside an abandoned house in Irvington Township this morning -Wednesday-.

The fast-moving fire broke out inside the large two and a half story wood framed house located in the 200 block of 21st Street just before 3 a.m.

Township firefighter along with Maplewood crews were able to get a swift jump on heavy fire that they observed coming from the second floor of the structure.

The fire was brought under control in under a half hour with a search of the house for trapped and injured occupants coming back negative.

EMS transported a firefighter to St. Barnabus Medical Center suffering non-life threatening injuries according to reports.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
