Finger Prints Left on Cell Phone Taken During 2022 Armed Robbery Ends in Newark Suspect Arrested

Police officials in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Keyshawn Jones, 26, of Newark, who was wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on Wednesday, February 9, 2022.  “

Newark Police alleged that at approximately 10:40 a.m., a woman inside her parked vehicle in the 200 block of Kerrigan Boulevard was approached by a male who demanded her money at gunpoint.  

Police said because the victim had no money, the suspect then took her cell phone before fleeing north on Kerrigan Boulevard with the victim’s cell phone.  

The cell phone was tracked and located on 14th Avenue near South 12th Street.

According to Newark Police, detectives investigating the robbery identified the suspect, Jones, based on a fingerprint lifted from the cell phone and a warrant was obtained for Jones’s arrest.

On April 8, 2023, Jones was apprehended by Bloomfield Police and subsequently charged by Newark Police with robbery, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a weapon, firearm possession for an unlawful purpose, and receiving stolen property.
