Female Arrested in Newark South Ward Firearm Incident

Police took a female suspect into custody then charged her with possessing a weapon in the city's South Ward on Thursday evening.

According to preliminary reports, Newark Police officers scrambled to the vicinity of 515 Elizabeth Avenue after receiving reports of shots fired and a person fleeing the scene with a gun at approximately 9:25 p.m.

Officers arrived and immediately began a search for a crime scene and a suspect, according to reports.

After an investigation at the location, police could not confirm shots fired, but a witness informed officers that a female had a gun.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a silver vehicle, possibly a Dodge Charger, according to reports.

Police located a suspect fitting the description a short distance away and placed the assailant in custody. Police detained one other person according to reports.

There were no physical injuries reported.
