Authorities in Middlesex County are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after a federal law enforcement agent and his wife were found dead at their Sayreville home Friday night.

According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, 46-year-old Kelly Iatauro was found fatally shot inside the couple’s home on Glynn Court.

Her husband, 52-year-old Christopher Iatauro, was discovered outside in the backyard suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators believe Christopher Iatauro shot his wife before taking his own life.

Police responded to the residence at approximately 8 p.m. after receiving a 911 call.

During the investigation, nearby residents were instructed to remain indoors while officers secured the scene, and a portion of the neighborhood was temporarily closed to traffic.

The motive remains under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details about what led to the deadly incident.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

According to records cited by New Jersey 101.5 and other published reports, Christopher Iatauro was employed as a special agent with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The agency has not publicly commented on the case.
