Fatal Shooting in NJ Mall Parking Lot Under Investigation

One man was shot and killed early this morning, and another man shot and wounded, in the parking lot at the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced.

In response to a 9-1-1 call, Hamilton Township Police responded to the Hamilton Mall parking lot near Macy’s, 4403 East Black Horse Pike, in Mays Landing at approximately 1:05 a.m for a report of a shooting.

Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad personnel, AtlantiCare paramedics, and Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit detectives also responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, police found Demond Cottman, 21, of Atlantic City, the victim of multiple gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:23 a.m. by AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center paramedics in communication with ARMC physician, Dr. Keogh.

An autopsy is pending.

Also found at the scene was the victim’s brother, 26-years-old Shadi Cottman, of Clayton, suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.

He was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center—City Division, where he remains in stable condition.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Hamilton Township Police Department Detective Bureau continue the investigation.
