Investigators from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating a fatal overnight shooting that happened in Newark.
Reports of shots fired sent police to the 700 block of South 15th Street at around 12:15 a.m.
Officers arriving to the scene located a male victim unconscious and unresponsive at that location according to a spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
Medics arrived a short time later to pronounce the victim at the scene the spokesperson said.
"The investigation is ongoing and we hope to have additional information later this morning" the spokesperson continued.
