Fatal Newark Shooting Victim Identified by Authorities; Final Homicide in the City for 2015

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray has announced that authorities are investigating an evening shooting that resulted in a fatality in Newark.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on Thursday evening shortly before 5:30 p.m.

Newark police officers responded to the 100 block of Camden Street on reports of shots fired.

Authorities said, arriving officers located an unresponsive male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds lying on the sidewalk at this location.

The victim, who has been identified as Bruce Turner, 26, of Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:55 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.

The incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, according to Fennelly,
