Authorities in Middlesex County are seeking the public’s assistance in the investigation of a hit and run that occurred on August 23, 2023, on the New Jersey Turnpike Northbound truck lane.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone reported on August 24, at approximately 8:36 a.m., that New Jersey State Police were notified of a deceased victim located on the northbound truck side of the New Jersey Turnpike in East Brunswick.

Authorities responded to the scene, where they located Giuseppe Zuccarello, 78, of Queens, New York.

Zuccarello had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, officials said.

According to officials, after an initial investigation by Detective Matthew Schaible of the New Jersey State Police and Sergeant Jonathan Berman of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, it was determined that Zuccarello was the driver of a box truck and he had parked his vehicle on the side of the road and exited the vehicle.

Officials say it was approximately 10:50 p.m. on August 23 when he was hit by the vehicle that fled the scene.

Zuccarello sustained injuries that were consistent with being struck by a truck, officials said.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
