Middlesex County authorities are investigating a train strike that killed an occupant inside a vehicle on Thursday night in South Plainfield.
According to a preliminary investigation, emergency responders rushed to the freight train tracks at Brunswick Avenue and Tyler Place to investigate reports of a crash.
Upon arrival, rescue crews found a severely damaged vehicle with a person trapped inside.
Police say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
