The Union County Prosecutor's Office has been alerted to a tragic fire incident that occurred in Garwood on Friday evening.

At approximately 4:50 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 30's block of North Avenue following several 911 calls reporting a blaze.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a distressing scene as heavy flames engulfed a two-and-a-half-story, wood-framed house.

Concerned that the fire might spread to a neighboring residence, fire officials at the scene called for a second alarm to ensure sufficient manpower.

Firefighters diligently worked to combat the blaze and managed to bring it under control in under thirty minutes. However, during a subsequent search of the building, responders discovered a deceased individual inside.

The cause of the fire remains under an active and thorough investigation by authorities.

At this time, no other injuries have been reported, and the community is awaiting further updates on this tragic incident.Ad
