Fatal Hit-and-Run in Jersey City Under Investigation

Authorities in Hudson County announced that the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on Monday, December 29.

Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello stated that, at approximately 8 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a possible pedestrian struck on Tonnelle Avenue near North Street.

Responding officers located the body of a lifeless male on the northbound side of the road, Hudson County officials said. The male, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene, according to Hudson County officials. 

HCPO authorities say the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department.
