Fatal Cyclist Accident in Hackettstown Under Investigation by Attorney General's Office

A tragic incident occurred early Monday morning, February 5, when a cyclist was fatally injured in a collision involving an unmarked New Jersey State Police SUV in Hackettstown, New Jersey.TigerThe Attorney General’s Office has taken charge of the investigation, following protocols for incidents involving law enforcement officers.

The accident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. on Willow Grove Street, near Brook Hollow Drive when the police vehicle collided with the cyclist.

Despite being rushed to Hackettstown Medical Center, the adult male cyclist was pronounced dead at 7:17 a.m.

The identity of the victim has not been disclosed as the investigation continues.

This investigation is part of a broader mandate under Attorney General Directive 2019-4, which requires the Attorney General’s Office to lead inquiries into any deaths occurring during encounters with law enforcement officers in their official capacity or while the individual is in custody.
