A fast-moving fire that began inside an attached garage left a home in Irvington Township heavily damaged Monday night.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 30’s block of Howard Street near Nye Avenue around 9:10 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a fire inside a residence.
When crews arrived, they encountered heavy flames rapidly spreading from the garage and pushing into the upper floors of the home.
Officials at the scene struck a second alarm for additional manpower as crews worked to contain the blaze. Mutual aid from Newark Fire Department assisted in the operation.
Authorities said one person was rescued from the home as firefighters stretched multiple hose lines to bring the fire under control.
The blaze was knocked down in under an hour. No additional injuries were immediately reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
