Far Hills Teen Charged with Carjacking

Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor, and Far Hills Borough Chief of Police Michael DeCarolis announced the arrest of a juvenile male, age 16, Far Hills, Somerset County, New Jersey. 

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at approximately 9:18 p.m. the Far Hills Police Department received a call reporting an attempted carjacking at a residence in the Polo Club condominium complex, Far Hills, New Jersey.

The victim, a 38-year-old female resident of the complex, reported that an unknown male entered her garage, brandished a weapon (knife) and demanded the keys to her vehicle.

Officials said the  female victim reported there was a brief struggle where the attacker lunged at the victim with the weapon before fleeing towards the Far Hills Train Station.  Far Hills Police immediately responded to the train station to search for the suspect. Responding Officers located an individual who matched the physical and clothing description provided by the victim walking in the train station parking lot. 

Prosecutor Robertson stated the suspect was confronted and briefly questioned by police before attempting to flee from officers.  

The suspect subsequently identified as a 16 year old male juvenile was apprehended following a brief foot chase and arrested by officers. During the apprehension the juvenile suspect resisted arrest by using physical force to free his hands in an attempt to avoid from being taken into custody.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that the investigation conducted by Far Hills Police positively identified the juvenile as the person who attempted the carjacking.  The juvenile was charged with Carjacking (1st Degree), Burglary (2nd Degree), Obstructing Administration of Law (Disorderly Persons Offense), and Resisting Arrest (Disorderly Persons Offense).  The juvenile was transported and lodged at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center pending a family court appearance.
