Family Dispute in Newark Ends in Shooting

A family dispute had police taking two city men into custody in connection with an alleged assault of their alleged cousin, officials said.

According to police, four men - all cousins - were arguing in the area of Mountainview Avenue and North Munn Avenue on Tuesday (March 1), when one of the men allegedly pulled a gun and fired a single shot. Police did not say if anyone was struck.

However, one of the other suspects allegedly struck the victim with a baseball bat, sending him to University Hospital for treatment.

An initial search for the suspects in the area of the incident did not find the suspect.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Dashon Perry, 40, and Isan Nelson, 32, who were taken into custody while a at a home in the 1600 block of Bayview Avenue.

Both men were charged with aggravated assault and several weapons related violations.

The third alleged attacker, Naghi Perry, 23, remains at large.

The investigation into the assault is active and ongoing, officials said.
