After three days of sweltering heat that pushed temperatures over 100 degrees and prompted a heatwave declaration, Newark and much of North Jersey are enjoying a cool and refreshing start to Friday.

As of 4:30 a.m., it was a crisp 65 degrees in downtown Newark, feeling more like fall than the first day of August.
Light drizzle is being reported in some parts of the region, but it’s not widespread, adding to the pleasant change in weather following Thursday’s storms that helped knock down the oppressive heat.
According to the National Weather Service, Friday will bring a chance of showers before 8 a.m., followed by light rain between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Skies will remain mostly cloudy with a high near 75. Overnight, conditions will turn partly cloudy with lows around 63.

It’s a welcome break for residents after enduring several days of extreme heat and humidity.
