Residents across Newark and the North Jersey region are waking up to the first real taste of fall, with cool, crisp air settling in on Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, it was 60 degrees in downtown Newark around 4:30 a.m., making jackets a must for commuters heading out early.

Further north, temperatures dropped even lower, with readings as cool as 45 degrees reported in parts of Sussex and Morris counties, where frost advisories were issued in higher elevations.

A chilly northeast breeze will keep the day feeling brisk, but conditions are expected to remain pleasant under sunny skies.

Today’s high will reach near 69 degrees, with north winds blowing between 11 and 14 mph.

Tonight, clear skies will continue, with temperatures dipping to around 50 degrees.
