As our 4:40 a.m. news day began, temperatures dipped to a crisp 57 degrees, creating a distinctly October-like feel across Newark and much of the North Jersey region.

On South Orange Avenue near Vailsburg Park, breezy early morning conditions made it feel like autumn is officially knocking. For those heading out early to catch the bus or go for a morning walk, a light jacket is definitely recommended.

But don’t let the chilly start fool you, plenty of sunshine is in store for today, making it a spectacular Saturday to kick off the holiday weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, residents can expect:

Today: Sunny skies, with a high near 76°F. A northwest breeze at 5 to 8 mph will keep things feeling fresh.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with another cool low around 57°F.

Whether you’re heading to the park, taking a short trip, or just relaxing at home, today’s weather offers the perfect blend of summer sun and fall refreshment.
