As of early Tuesday morning, temperatures had already reached 79 degrees near Market and Washington Streets in downtown Newark, with oppressive humidity making the conditions feel even hotter.

Forecasters warn that heat index values could climb to 104 degrees today, creating hazardous conditions for anyone outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service, today is expected to be sunny with a high of 99 degrees.

Winds will remain light, shifting to the west at around six mph in the afternoon.

Tonight will be mostly clear with a low near 78 degrees, offering little overnight relief.

Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and take advantage of cooling centers as the region continues to endure this intense heatwave through midweek.
