Essex County Sheriff's Officer Injured in Newark Car Crash

Newark

An Essex County Sheriff's officer suffered non-life threatening injuries after his vehicle was struck at a location in Newark's North Ward Saturday night.

According to a statement released by Essex County officials, the officer was conducting a motor vehicle stop in the vicinity of Lake Street and Bloomfield Avenue at around 10 p.m. when a car operated by a woman struck the officer's car while he was inside.

Officials say EMS transported the officer to University Hospital where doctors treated minor injuries then released him on Saturday night.

County officials said the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. No summonses were given to the woman as of Sunday morning, but officials have not ruled out if any citations would be issued.
