Excitement is building in Essex County as hundreds of young athletes prepare for a day of spirited competition and celebration at Brookdale Park.
According to information released by Essex County officials, the Honorable County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr., will welcome approximately 500 children and young adults with physical and intellectual disabilities to the 22nd annual Essex County Special Olympics Track and Field Competition.
The event takes place on Wednesday, April 30, at the county’s state-of-the-art recreation complex located along the Bloomfield and Montclair border.

Festivities begin with an opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m., followed by a series of track and field events starting at 10 a.m.
Athletes will showcase their talents in front of cheering families, volunteers, coaches, and community supporters—all there to celebrate their determination and spirit.
The Special Olympics event is a highlight of Essex County’s commitment to providing recreational opportunities for all residents and ensuring every child has a chance to shine.
