Police say on Tuesday at approximately 8:42 p.m., the Rochelle Park Police Department received a report of a motor vehicle accident in front of 199 Route 17 South, Rochelle Park.
According to police, responding officers located the victim, a motorcyclist, with severe head trauma in the southbound lanes.
An investigation revealed that a maroon or red semi-trailer truck slowed down to a stop in the right lane of Route 17 South due to traffic ahead.
A motorcycle traveling behind the semi-truck was unable to brake in time and struck the truck’s rear left tires.
The semi-truck continued south on Route 17. The motorcyclist, identified as Mario Andres Uran Gaviria, 41, of Elmwood Park, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
An investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Rochelle Park Police Department under the direction of Chief Dean Pinto.
Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the semi-truck involved.
