Elizabeth Schools Among County Schools on Alert After Kean Threats

School officials around Union County are on high alert after overnight threats made on Twitter against Kean University students.

The Elizabeth Public School officials notified parents this morning, that all schools are on' heightened state of alert’ as a precaution after threats made against Kean students.

The message sent to parents was as follows;

The Elizabeth Public Schools is aware of the reports of threats that have been made on social media toward certain groups of students and staff at Kean University in Union.

Based on these reports and the need to maintain our own safety and vigilance within our school district, we have placed our buildings under a ‘heightened state of alert’ for today Wednesday, November 18th. This measure is precautionary and designed to ensure that all of our children and team members continue to operate in a safe and secure environment.

We will advise you once we have lifted the heightened state of alert.

In Westfield, an email alert was sent to parents, after a call was received by the Westfield Police Department at approximately 8:15 a.m. today, reporting a bomb threat at the Union County Educational Services, at 1571 Lamberts Mill Road complex, where Westlake School, Lamberts Mill Academy and Hillcrest Academy South are located.

After further investigation, Westfield police determined that it was safe to enter the schools shortly before 9:30 a.m.
