Elizabeth Police Investigate Possible Connection Between Fatal Staten Island Crash, Earlier Route 1&9 Gun Incident

Police in Elizabeth successfully recovered a handgun after suspects fled the scene of an investigation early Tuesday morning.Real EstateAccording to preliminary reports, officers stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Spring Street and East Grand around 1:10 a.m. During the stop, one of the suspects allegedly produced a weapon.

Although officers were able to seize the gun, the suspect managed to evade capture by speeding away from the scene, heading southbound on Route 1&9 and onto the Goethals Bridge.

Despite a pursuit, Elizabeth officers lost track of the suspects.

The suspects were identified as occupants of a BMW. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Crash

In a separate but possibly related incident, authorities are on the search for a motorist involved in a deadly collision on Staten Island.

The incident occurred on a service road adjacent to the Staten Island Expressway at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Monday.

A black BMW sedan, after exiting the expressway, veered off the road, breaking through a fence and colliding with a utility pole.

According to the NYPD, the crash led to a passenger being thrown from the vehicle, who was subsequently declared dead at the scene.

Post-crash, the driver reportedly detached the license plates from the wrecked car before fleeing.

Investigators are exploring the possibility that this individual might be connected to an earlier altercation where Elizabeth police disarmed suspects on Route 1&9.
