Elizabeth Officer Involved in Crash While Responding to Call

Elizabeth

Authorities today had confirmed that an officer was involved in a crash July 4th, when another motorist reportedly failed to yield as he was responding to a call in his police car.

The driver of Vehicle 1 stated that he was traveling east on North Avenue when Vehicle 2 (police vehicle) collided with his car as he approached the intersection of North Avenue and Monroe Avenue.

Driver 1 further stated that he did not see the police vehicle lights nor did he hear the siren.

The officer, however, reported that as he responded to a call of service, the vehicle had the lights and sirens activated as he traveled north on Monroe Avenue.

The officer further stated the vehicles traveling west on North Avenue were stopped, giving his vehicle the right of way just before the collision.

Police issued the driver of vehicle one a summons for failure to yield to emergency vehicle.

Officials did not confirm if the officer involved in a crash was responding to the incident on Monroe Avenue, where a 16-year-old boy was shot in the head at a police officer's residence.

It is not immediately clear if the officer involved in the crash is the officer's home that he was responding for the shooting victim.
