Elizabeth Man Sentenced for Severely Beating Woman in Edison

Edison Elizabeth

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey said an Elizabeth man was sentenced today to serve eight years in a New Jersey state prison for severely beating a 30-year-old woman with a section of pipe.

Mickey Vanderpool, 61, must serve 85 percent of the prison term before he can be eligible for parole under the sentence handed down by Superior Court Judge Alberto Rivas in New Brunswick.

The prison term was imposed after Vanderpool pleaded guilty on March 23, 2017 to a second-degree count of aggravated assault for attacking the woman in the days preceding June 21, 2016.

The plea agreement was reached with Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Allysa Gambarella.

During the investigation it was determined that Vanderpool met the woman in Newark, and drove her to Raritan Center in Edison, where he repeatedly struck her about the head with the pipe and left her for dead.

The woman wandered around the industrial complex for an unknown amount of time, possibly a day or more, before she was found by a utility worker and asked for help. Police were called to the scene.

The woman was taken to JFK Medical Center in Edison, where she was treated and released.
