Jersey City Elizabeth

Authorities are investigating an unusual incident that left an Elizabeth man in critical condition after he was pinned against a tree reportedly by his own tow truck.

Police were called to Christopher Columbus Drive sometime around 10:30 Thursday evening for a report of an abandoned tow truck that had a pickup truck attached.

After further investigation, police responded to Jersey City Medical Center, where the 28-year-old Elizabeth resident told them that he responded to Christopher Columbus Drive to reportedly pick up a vehicle that was leaking fuel.

As the man was picking up disabled vehicle, his own vehicle started going in reverse. As he attempted to regain control of the vehicle he was struck by the open door.

No immediate clarity was provided as to how the man got pinned against the small tree but incident remains under investigation.

According to police, the man who was alert during the interview, remains hospitalized at Jersey City Medical Center, with life-threatening injuries.
