Elizabeth Man Killed in Apparent Hit-and-Run in Monroe Twp.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Michael Lloyd of the Monroe Police Department said police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run on Applegarth Road early this morning.

 

According to police, officers responded to the intersection of Applegarth Road and Forsgate Drive sometime before 5 a.m. after a 911 call was received from a passerby who saw a man lying next to his vehicle.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Jose Cedillo, 44, of Elizabeth, was driving his 2017 Nissan Titan Pick-Up truck to work (Cooper Electric in Monroe Twp.) when he was allegedly struck by a vehicle at the intersection.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. While results of an autopsy are pending with the Medical Examiner’s Office, it has been preliminarily determined that the victim was struck by another vehicle.

 

The crash is currently being investigation by Sgt. Keith Saloom of the Monroe Police Department and Detective Craig Marchak of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
