Elizabeth Man Charged in Connection with Kearny Hit-and-Run

Authorities in Hudson County reported that on Thursday, September 21, the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested an Elizabeth man in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured two pedestrians in Kearny on Sunday, February 19, 2023.

According to officials, Ivo DaSilva-Oliveira, 24, is charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, two counts of Endangering an Injured Person and Causing Injury as an Unlicensed Driver.

Authorities say he was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance, tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 29, 2023.

On Sunday, February 19, shortly after 6 p.m., officials stated that Kearny Police was notified that two pedestrians were struck in the area of Belgrove Drive and Wilkinson Terrace.

Officials said responding officers located two female victims, ages 57 and 77, both of Kearny, at the intersection.

The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene, officials say. 

According to officials, both victims were transported by Emergency Medical Services to the University Hospital for treatment.
