Elizabeth Man Accused of Stealing $5K Worth of Jewelry from Cranford Home, Arrested

Cranford Police arrested a 48-year-old Elizabeth man following a reported residential burglary Wednesday.

Police were called to a single family home on the 900 block of Lincoln Avenue East shortly before 1 p.m. for a report of a residential burglary.

Upon arrival, officers met with resident who told them when he arrived to the home, he observed a male suspect leaving his property and fleeing on Myrtle Street.

After seeing that entry was made to his home the resident called 9-1-1. A description of the fleeing suspect was broadcast to responding units.

During a check of the surrounding area, Ptl. John Colineri observed a male matching the suspect’s physical and clothing description in a residential Roselle neighborhood adjacent to the Cranford border.

The male fled on foot and was apprehended by Ptl. Colineri on Grove Street in Roselle. An alert Roselle resident called 9-1-1 and directed Roselle Police units to the exact location of the arrest.

The suspect was identified as Dimetri Shell, of Elizabeth. During the arrest, officers recovered approximately $5000 in jewelry taken from the Lincoln Avenue address.

Shell was charged with burglary, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.

He was processed and committed to the Union County Jail pending an appearance in Superior Court on Friday, April 29, 2016. His bail was set at $15,000.
