Elizabeth Firefighters Battle Fast Moving House Fire

Fire officials in Elizabeth are looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in the city during the overnight hours.

According to fire officials, heavy fire broke out inside a large two in a half story multi-family wood framed house located in the 800 block of Murray Street at approximately 2:48 a.m.

Upon firefighters arrival, they activated several lines after they observed substantial fire venting from the roof according to officials.

Crews were able to knock down much of the fire in about an hour but continued to chase stubborn flames that existed to inside the walls of the house.

A search of the structure indicated no trapped or injured occupants.

The cause remains under investigation.
