Elizabeth Firefighters Battle Early Morning Three-Alarm Building Fire

Firefighters in Elizabeth battled a raging three-alarm fire that tore through a building in the city on Saturday morning.

According to preliminary reports from fire officials, heavy fire broke out on the second floor of a two-story brick building located at 201 Marshall Street at approximately 2:30 a.m.

Crews arrived at the scene and began an exterior attack as flames tore through one of the apartments of the building then extended to other residences inside the structure according to reports.

Officials say fire swiftly extended into the cockloft of the building where firefighters began to make progress in knocking down the blaze.

A search of the structure for trapped or injured occupants came back negative for injured or trapped victims.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
