Elizabeth Robbery Suspects Captured in Newark; Officer Injured

Authorities captured two robbery suspects who led Elizabeth Police on a high speed chase that resulted in their vehicle flipping over on a highway in NJ Saturday night.

Police have not released official information on the incident at this time, but according to preliminary reports, Elizabeth officers caught up with suspects who were wanted for a robbery at the Royal Motel on Spring Street.

​ Police believe the suspects held up a person withdrawing cash from the ATM machine.

When police attempted to stop the males, the driver reportedly ran over an officer's foot then crashed into a police cruiser shortly before speeding from the scene.

According to reports, the suspects were able to get onto I-78, where they flipped the car over near exit 55 (Fabyan Place) in Newark just before 10:40 p.m.

Elizabeth and Newark officers took the suspects into custody without further incident.

The officer's injuries were not considered as life-threatening.

The condition of the suspects have not been confirmed at this time.
