Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run incident that left an elderly man fighting for his life early Monday morning in Jersey City.
According to preliminary reports, emergency crews were dispatched to the 200 block of Bay Street shortly after receiving calls about a person lying unresponsive in the roadway.
When officers arrived, they found an unidentified senior man with severe injuries, believed to have been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
Police immediately requested EMS, and the victim was provided emergency medical care at the scene before being transported to Jersey City Medical Center.
He remains in critical condition with a severe head injury.
The driver involved in the crash fled before authorities arrived, and no description of the vehicle has been released at this time.
The incident remains under active and ongoing investigation.
Police are urging anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with information.
