Middlesex County authorities are investigating a crash that had a police cruiser involved in Edison on Monday morning.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the vicinity of Route 1 southbound near Wooding Avenue where they arrived to find an Edison Police cruiser involved in a collision with a civilian vehicle.
Rescue crews extricated one trapped civilian who suffered serious injuries, but there were no immediate reports of severe injuries to police officers according to reports.
According to witnesses, the civilian vehicle ran through a red light and struck the police car that was going through the intersection.
Police closed all southbound lanes and the left northbound lane for the crash investigation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
