Edison Man Arrested, Charged in Perth Amboy Homicide

Middlesex County officials announced that an Edison man was charged today with the murder of a 41-year-old Perth Amboy man on August 23 in the City.

Robert Hagens, 42, of Edison, was arrested and charged with the murder of 41-year old Vidal Carrasquillo-Vasquez, of Perth Amboy.

Hagens was also charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, both second-degree crimes. He was previously arrested and charged on August 24 with conspiracy to

possess cocaine.

The charges were filed following an investigation by the Perth Amboy Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation began on August 23, at approximately 11:35 p.m., when Perth Amboy Police responded to a 911 call regarding a one-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hall Avenue and High Street.

Upon arrival, officers observed that the driver of the vehicle, 41-year-old Vidal Carrasquillo-Vasquez, appeared to be suffering from several gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to Staten Island University Hospital and was subsequently pronounced deceased.

Hagens is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center pending a Detention Hearing.
