Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that Shanita Stubbs, 26, of East Orange was arrested yesterday in Sacramento, California for the murder of Crystal Williams, 33, of Montclair.
Stubbs was charged with Williams’ murder last Friday, Aug. 14. A warrant was issued for her arrest. She was taken into custody by the FBI Fugitive Task Force without incident yesterday. Officials in California are preparing to have her extradited to New Jersey.
The final cause and manner of death are pending but the preliminary indication is Williams died from blunt force trauma and possible suffocation.
Williams was reported missing on July 10. Her badly decomposed body was discovered in Newark on July 25.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
