East Orange Teen Charged with Knifepoint Attempted Robbery in Newark's Ironbound Section

A violent knifepoint attempted robbery that occurred in the city's Ironbound Section early Thursday morning had police search for, then apprehend a suspect a short time later.

According to authorities at the Newark Police Department, they are reporting the arrest of a male juvenile who resides in East Orange who they said attempted an armed robbery that occurred on Thursday, February 16, 2017.

Police said, shortly after 9 a.m., a 38-year-old woman was accosted by a suspect who demanded her personal possessions at knifepoint near the intersection of Ferry Street and Madison Avenue.

The suspect fled before getting anything when he saw a man approaching police said.

Multiple Newark Police officers swarmed the area where they searched and located the suspect on Nicholas Street within minutes of the incident authorities said.

The teen was arrested and charged with Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
