East Orange Shirtless Man Arrested for Newark Gas Station Armed Robbery

Newark Police officials announced the arrest of a man who violently assaulted a clerk at a McCarter Highway gas station store early Tuesday morning.

Police say Mr. Brian F. Wright, 31, of East Orange was arrested by Newark Police Wednesday morning without incident outside an East Orange store where he worked.

“This was good, quick work by our robbery squad,” Director Ambrose said.

According to police, at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the shirtless Wright entered the gas station store on McCarter Highway, and repeatedly punched a worker while demanding a specific amount of cash.

A second worker stopped the attack by giving Wright that amount police said.

Security cameras captured video of Wright and police were able to identify him.

Wright was charged with aggravated assault, robbery and also had an outstanding warrant.
