Essex County authorities are on the search for a suspect wanted for a fatal shooting that occurred on the border of East Orange and Newark early this morning -Friday-.
Residents heard multiple rounds of gunfire that rang out in the vicinity of 9th Avenue between South 17th Street and South 18th Street then saw police from Newark and East Orange canvassing the Central Avenue border at approximately 1:20 a.m.
Police arrived in the area and found an unconscious and unresponsive person suffering gunshot wounds at that location. This victim was pronounced dead at the scene according to preliminary reports.
Authorities canvassing the area found a second person suffering gunshot injuries and was transported to University Hospital where the extent of his injuries are unknown.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed the homicide and credited the incident to the City of East Orange.
Police set up a crime scene where they began to search for evidence to support a motive.
The suspect remains at-large.
