Newark Police are announcing the arrest of Mr. Michael Ramashai (left photo), 24, and Mr. Cory Alston, 39, both of East Orange, for CDS distribution on Wednesday, September 13th.
According to police, at approximately 9 p.m., a Newark officer on patrol observed a blue Honda Odessey violate a traffic signal at the intersection of Springfield and Clinton avenues.
Police said when the officers attempted a motor vehicle stop, the driver, Michael Ramashai, dropped a plastic bag on the passenger-side floor of the car and sped off, striking the police officer with the vehicle.
The officers located the vehicle at the intersection of Carolina Avenue and Laurel Street shortly after the driver Michael Ramashai, fled the vehicle, leaving his passenger, Cory Alston, inside the vehicle.
Police immediately arrested Ramashaic then placed Alston in custody.
Police said the bag Ramashai dropped inside the car was open and contained four plastic bags of marijuana, 62 glassine envelopes of heroin, three plastic bags of cocaine, 74 Xanax pills, 145 Oxycodone pills, four ziplock bags containing tops for vials commonly used to package cocaine and $2,639.00 in cash.
Authorities charged both men with CDS Possession, CDS Distribution, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Police said Ramashai was also charged with Eluding and Alston with CDS Possession inside a Motor Vehicle.
These charges are merely accusations. Both suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
