East Orange Man Wanted for Carjacking Arrested by Newark Police

Police officials in Newark are reporting that their Fugitive Apprehension Team has arrested Mr. Sharik Canty, 22, of East Orange, for a carjacking that occurred on Tuesday, October 10th.

Police said at approximately 10 p.m., officers responded to the 300-block of North 11th Street on a call of a carjacking.

Upon arrival they learned that Three black males robbed two men at gunpoint, taking their car keys and fleeing in the stolen vehicles.

Detectives developed evidence that Sharik Canty is a suspect in this carjacking and issues a warrant for his arrest on charges of carjacking, robbery, and weapon possession.

Police said today, detectives arrested Canty in East Orange without incident and charged him with Robbery, Carjacking, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Conspiracy.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The investigation is continuing as additional suspects remain at large.
