East Orange Man Injured After Jet Ski Collision near GWB

Fort Lee East Orange

A 20-year-old East Orange man suffered a serious leg injury after the jet ski he was riding collided with another jet ski Sunday near the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge.

Police received a report of a jet ski accident at approximately 4:15 p.m. Sunday near a dock south of the tower in Fort Lee.

Upon arrival, police found Rafael Rodriguez suffering from a serious leg injury.

EMS transported Rodriguez to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment.

An unidentified juvenile also suffered unspecified injuries which were treated by EMS, according to reports.

Based on preliminary investigations, it was determined that while a jet ski was idling too close to shore, a second jet ski -operated by Carlos Cruz, 24, of Newark - didn't slow down and struck Rodriguez's jet ski.

Marine violations were issued and both jet skis were impounded, police added.
