East Newark Resident Killed While Changing Tire on NJ Turnpike in Secaucus

NJ State Police officials are on the search for the driver of a car that struck and killed a Hudson County man on a highway in Secaucus Saturday night.

According to a statement released by State police, it happened at approximately 11:51 p.m., where emergency responders and rescue crews rushed to the southbound lanes eastern spur after they received reports of an injured person.

Upon arrival, police found a severely injured male lying on the roadway after a car struck him at that location.

NJ State Police officials identified the victim as Mr. Joses Peralta, 33, of East Newark.

Officials say a preliminary investigation indicated that Mr. Peralta was changing a tire on the vehicle on the right shoulder of the road when a car struck him then sped away.

According to police, Peralta was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities closed the right lane of the highway for the investigation.

The driver of the vehicle remains at-large.
