Early Morning Shooting Injures Four in Newark's South Ward

An active and ongoing investigation is underway into a shooting incident that injured two victims in Newark Saturday morning. 

It happened just before 1 a.m. near 525 Elizabeth Avenue in the city's South Ward. 

Police said gunfire erupted near Weequahic Park, sending offices to the scene to investigate. When they arrived, they found evidence that a shooting occurred With two victims suffering bullet wounds. 

While police taped off and secured the area, officials at the University Hospital notified authorities that two other males entered the emergency department suffering bullet wounds. 

Police believe that the walk-in  victims were struck by gunfire near the park but are continuing the investigation. 

The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
