Early Morning Police Pursuit Causes Injuries in Newark

An investigation is underway into a crash that caused injuries early this morning in Newark.

According to reports, a carjacking investigation unit followed a vehicle in the area of Washington Street and Market Street shortly before 4:30 a.m.

When units reportedly attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver sped off at a high rate of speed.

Witnesses making their journey to work said the vehicle (described as a white minivan) headed eastbound making it's way onto South Orange Ave. where police continued to follow.

At the intersection of South Orange Ave. and South 10th Street, the vehicle came to a crashing halt into other vehicles at that location. The suspects bailed from the vehicle with police in a foot pursuit.

The suspects were apprehended shortly after the foot pursuit.

EMS transported at least two people to University Hospital suffering unknown injuries.

It is not immediately known if the crash victims were the suspects or civilians traveling in the area during the pursuit.
